DivX isn’t just a powerful video converter, but a stylish universal video player as well. It can convert and play just about any video file you want and gives you plenty of advanced control over your product. Though some of its features are locked behind a paywall, it is worthy enough to be your sole conversion program.
In addition to a custom browser toolbar, this program’s installation has a search page and home page takeover attached to the download. It tries to force you to accept one or the other, which is annoying. The program includes a video player in addition to a converter, but the two programs install separately from one another – you can’t convert a video and then play it without launching the second program. DivX’s player supports most formats and the converter lets you convert to just about any format you can imagine. However, the MPEG codec and a few others are only available as free trials that you have to pay to use after a certain amount of time. Some of the app’s HD resolutions are only available if you upgrade to Premium, as well. Video converting isn’t lightning fast, but it’s not slow by any means. It took the program about two minutes to convert a five-minute video file. Video quality stayed intact.
While DivX won’t blow you away with performance, the features and options the program offers merit plenty of acclaim. It deserves points just for being a video player and converter in one. Since DivX backs those options up with even more customization ideas inside the program, it’s one of the better converters you’ll find.

for years I had no issues with DivX, with many hours of viewing enjoyment.
The installer contains a virus, possibly a rootkit.
Don’t use this software
DivX is a Virus. AVOID THIS JUNK AT ALL COSTS

None. They sneak viruses onto your system through third parties.
DivX should be defined as a `Virus’.
Good software, bad company

Divx compression works well, it’s fast and flexible but DON’T EVER UPGRADE TO A NEW VERSION.
The Installer pretty much tricks you into installing malware, adware type programs etc. Read each page carefully before you click next carefully unselect items.
The product contains adverts despite having paid for a previous pro version. Having paid previously for an upgraded version I now find that I’m expected to pay again for a new version which I was pretty much forced to upgrading to and lost previous functionality.
You get a new version available message, you lose your paid for plugins and are expected to pay more money to get the new version to work as your previous version did.
Backing up mpeg2 files to Divx is very hit and miss when it comes to sound encoding. One update works then the next fails again then you find the next update takes you to a different version of the software which you have to pay for again.
Support is only through a pretty much ignored forum, they literally took my money and run leaving me with an upgraded trial version of a new product.
Avoid this company at all costs, they will take your money and then cause the software upgrades to require further payment down the line.
